The Pamphleteer

During colonial times in America, if you wanted to convince or inform people about some issue that you considered important, you went to the local printer and got some pamphlets printed. You then handed them out, read them to anybody that was interested, nailed them to the town bulletin board, or the nearest tree. The first amendment was specifically written to protect this type of activity and the writers or "pamphleteers".

The Fat Years

German Finance Minister Hans Eichel says fat people should be taxed more
to cover the growing costs of government-funded healthcare. The German
Chamber of Doctors agrees that obesity-related illnesses are driving up
healthcare spending. But they say Eichel's proposal would be impossible to
implement. Instead of taxing people based on their weight, they propose a
special tax on foods that contain sugar, animal fats, salt and alcohol.

Editor's Note: The USA is not very far from adopting this proposal.
